klj biography

Kerri Lynn Jennings is a performing artist whose training has a classical foundation, and whose career so far has been full of magical surprises.

Kerri Lynn came to New York as a classically trained actress, eager to make a name for herself in the world of theater. Soon after her arrival, she could be seen in several off-Broadway and Theater-row productions – including Emily in Island of Brilliance at the Abington Theater Company, and Josie in The Ball at the Duo Theater.

But her career got a magical jump-start in 1996 when she was plucked from another audition and asked to star at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas as a Romanian Gypsy & medium in a one-woman high concept magic act, The Séance. Cast (after a six-month search) for her unique combination of vocal, dialect, physical and improve skills, Kerri Lynn was "enchanting and mesmerizing" as Spurinna in The Séance (Los Angeles Times). Her show was offered exclusively to VIP guests, entertaining A list movie stars, heads of state, and other international celebrities - many of whom returned for encore performances. Working as the "jewel act" at Caesar's Magical Empire gave her immediate access to the highest artisans in the world of magic and Kerri Lynn, who had no prior magic or pyrotechnics training, was trained by Ray Pierce, and received additional feedback and/or coaching from Master of Masks Jeff McBride, Siegfried & Roy, and David Copperfield.

Upon her return to NY, Kerri Lynn began gaining recognition for her musical theatre skills, appearing regionally in leading roles of Company, Little Women, The Apple Tree (for which she also was choreographer) and Sunday in the Park with George (musical director Josh Clayton). "It was worth the veritable price of admission" (The Advocate) to see Kerri Lynn as Amy in Stephen Sondheim's Company – for which she was selected Best Performer of the Year by the Metroland Year in Review. In New York, Kerri Lynn was named by news channel NY1 as "best pick of the week" for family entertainment for her portrayal of Jo March in A Lady Named Jo - a musical version of Little Women. The New York Times agreed, saying "she sings lustily... giving the role of a little woman considerable stature".

Other appearances include the star-studded NYC concerts of Pippin directed by Gabriel Barre, starring Terrance Mann, Ben Vereen and Rosie O'Donnell, and The Secret Garden with director Stafford Arima, starring Michael Arden and Laura Benati. Recent workshops include the musical version of Ethan Fromme (Composer Adam Gwon, Orchestrator Josh Clayton) as Zeena, and the World Premiere of a new musical version of Christmas Carol as Belle (Book, Music and Lyrics by Jerry Blachman "& Jay Kerr).

Returning to the one-woman show format, Kerri Lynn developed a cabaret act, On the Brink, in which she dramatized the impact of the surprises and unexpected turns in her life and career... to great comic effect. The show, described as an "extraordinary debut" in the aptly named 'Summer Surprises' section of Backstage, premiered in May of 2004 showcasing her ability to "easily captivate a room...a laugh riot, Jennings had the room in stitches." Don’t Tell Mama reprised the show in October '04 and it went on to sell-out dates at the famous venue Odette's, in New Hope, PA and continues to book concerts. This has led to the development of four cabaret shows that KLJ books regularly amongst her other pursuits.

Her success and exposure with On the Brink led to the opportunity to begin a new collaboration, with celebrated musical director and arranger Christopher Marlowe. Their work led to the release of Kerri Lynn’s first CD entitled More Than You Know. Cabaret Scenes reports: "Jennings exhibits a natural sense of fun, which is her musical gold… belting as robustly as any Broadway diva, Kerri Lynn Jennings celebrates her debut CD, More Than You Know with intensity, creativity, and promise."

Kerri Lynn looks forward to the creativity and promise of the future... Please stay tuned to the events page for current projects and engagements!
